Syrian Electricity Company (SEC), Syria’s state-owned electricity utility, has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Saudi construction company Mohammed A. Al-Harfi, for the development of three solar power plants with a combined capacity of 760 MWp and BESS totalling 1,077 MWh.
The initiative, named Shams Al-Sham, forms part of the Syrian government’s strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the national power mix and improve grid stability. The three solar parks will be constructed in the Wadiyan al-Rabi area in rural Damascus and will be connected to a 400 kV transmission line. The associated BESS will provide 1,077 MWh of storage capacity to support renewable energy integration and enhance grid reliability.
