The central government has approved a proposal for the introduction of the Dam Safety Bill, 2018 to ensure uniform dam safety procedures across the country. The bill provides for proper surveillance, inspection, O&M of all specified dams in the country to ensure their safe functioning. It also provides for the setting up of a national committee on dam safety, which will help develop dam safety policies and regulations. Further, the bill seeks the establishment of a National Dam Safety Authority as a regulatory body for the implementation of policies, guidelines and standards for dam safety.
