PT PLN to construct subsea cable between Sumatra and Bangka

Indonesia’s state-owned power company, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT PLN), is planning to construct a subsea cable between Sumatra and Bangka.

The subsea cable would be 36circuitkm in length and is expected to be completed by December 2021. Its cost is around IDR1.9 trillion (where IDR1= $0.000070).Electricity from Sumatra’s low-cost power plants can be piped to the island, thus reducing the generation cost in Banka as well as increasing the island’s electricity supply by about 109 MVA.
