The Prime Minister virtually inaugurated the foundation laying ceremony for phase I of NLC India Limited’s (NLCIL) thermal power project (TPP), estimated at Rs 272.12 billion, in Talabira, Jharsuguda district of Odisha.
Upon completion, the 2,400MW plant is expected to supply 17.87 billion units of electricity to Odisha and neighboring states at competitive tariffs. Additionally, NLCIL plans to establish an 800 MW power plant in the second phase, estimated at Rs 80 billion. This project, touted as the largest greenfield pithead thermal power station in the country, aims to bolster India’s energy security and power growth. Utilising an eco-friendly conveyor system, the plant will receive coal from adjacent Talabira II and III operational mines, eliminating the need for costly road and rail transport. Moreover, the plant will incorporate state-of-the-art environmental features, including biomass firing, solid waste management, and effluent treatment systems.
