NGCP energises 230 kV Cebu–Bohol interconnection project in Philippines

National Grid Corporation of Phillipines (NGCP) has energised the 230 kV Cebu–Bohol interconnection project (CBIP), which will help meet the growing power demand of and strengthen grid resiliency in Bohol, as well as improve the operational flexibility of Cebu’s transmission system.

Overall, the 1.2 GW line will improve grid stability in Central Visayas, of which the two islands (Bohol and Cebu) are a part of. CBIP Line 1 was energised on July 16, and Line 2 was fully activated in September 2024. It involved connections in Argao, Cebu and Maribojoc, Bohol via 54.6 circuit km (ckt km) of submarine cables crossing the Bohol Strait, and 97.6 ckt km of lines comprising 179 overhead towers from Argao to the Dumanjug substation in Cebu and from Maribojoc to the Corella substation in Bohol. It also entailed construction of the 230 kV Corella substation (2×300 MVA) in Bohol, the onshore 230 kV Dumanjug–Argao line in Cebu, onshore Loon–Corella line in Bohol, 230 kV Argao–Loon submarine cable system (400 MW) linking Cebu and Bohol, and extension of the 230 kV Dumanjug substation, including a 70 MVAr reactor.
