The Government of Vietnam has unveiled an amended national power development plan, targeting a total installed power generation capacity of 183–236 GW by 2030, up from over 80 GW in 2023. The plan, estimated to cost USD136 billion, prioritises renewable energy development and includes nuclear power for the first time. Solar energy is projected to account for 25.3–31.1 per cent of the installed capacity, while onshore and nearshore wind will contribute 14.2–16.1 per cent. Hydropower is expected to make up 14.7–18.2 per cent, coal-fired plants 13.1–16.9 per cent, and LNG-based power 9.5–12.3 per cent. The government also plans to bring 4–6.4 GW of nuclear power capacity online between 2030 and 2035 as part of its efforts to support economic growth and meet carbon neutrality targets by 2050.
