Hokuriku Electric to build 600 MW gas-fired power plant in Japan

Hokuriku Electric Power has announced plans to build a new 600 MW LNG-fired power generation unit at its Toyama Shinko power station in northern Japan. The new unit will replace two aging thermal power units—a 250 MW coal-fired unit and a 240 MW oil-fired unit that is currently idled. Operations for the new gas-fired unit are scheduled to begin in the 2033/34 fiscal year. Hokuriku Electric expects the project to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, with an anticipated reduction of around 2 million metric tons annually. The company plans to conduct an environmental assessment and commence construction activities in the 2029/30 fiscal year.
