CERC notifies CERC (Deviation Settlement Mechanism and Related Matters) (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2025

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has notified the draft CERC (Deviation Settlement Mechanism and Related Matters) (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2025, introducing revisions aimed at refining the treatment of infirm power injections into the grid.

Under the amended provisions, the injection of infirm power shall generally attract zero charges. However, for thermal generating stations, infirm power injected between first synchronisation and successful trial run will be compensated at the normal deviation rate, subject to a ceiling of Rs 2.86 per kWh. Post-trial run, if infirm power is scheduled, deviation charges will align with those applicable to general sellers or wind solarsellers.

Importantly, when system frequency exceeds 50.05 Hz, any injection of infirm power or deviations due to over-injection beyond scheduled infirm power will not attract any charges. These amendments will come into effect from July 1, 2025.
