MNRE inaugurates 5 GWh BESS facility in Bengaluru and announces additional Rs 54 billion in VGF for BESS

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) inaugurated a battery energy storage systems (BESS) manufacturing facility in the Bidadi industrial area, Bengaluru.

The facility will have an annual production capacity of 5 GWh and will feature a fully automated cell-to-pack assembly line. At the innaugration, the MNRE also announced an additional Rs 54 billion in viability gap funding (VGF) for 30 GWh of BESS capacity. This is in addition to the existing Rs 37 billion already allocated, which has supported 13.2 GWh of projects so far.
