Nigeria has obtained a USD238 million loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to strengthen its power grid. The agreement was made during the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Japan. The loan will support construction of 103 km of 330 kV direct current (D/C) lines, 105 km of 132 kV D/C lines, four 330/132/33 kV substations, two 132/33 kV substations, and multiple line bay extensions. This will lead to improved transmission efficiency and reduced system losses. In addition, three substations funded by JICA through a USD32 million grant are scheduled for commissioning in Apo (Federal Capital Territory), Keffi (Nasarawa state), and Apapa (Lagos state).
