The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) has planned to invest over USD3.5 billion in the next decade to strengthen its regional power grid, integrate renewable energy and enable electricity exports beyond the Gulf.
The investment will be financed by GCCIA and recovered through annual fees paid by member states. The GCCIA operates the GCC Power Grid, which links the electricity networks of all six Gulf Cooperation Council countries from Oman to Kuwait. The first external connection is set to go live in April 2026, linking the grid to Iraq. Future connections to Jordan, Egypt, and possibly Syria are also being explored.
