Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Electric Power Development Company (J-POWER) have partnered and initiated discussions for the transfer of MHI’s domestic onshore wind power business to J-POWER.
The companies aim to finalise the transaction by April 1, 2026, subject to the execution of a definitive agreement. MHI brings four decades of wind turbine manufacturing expertise, having begun production of large-scale turbines in the 1980s. To date, it has delivered over 4,200 turbines across 11 countries, with a primary focus on North America and Japan. The company currently offers after-sales services globally. The proposed transfer aligns with J-POWER’s strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint and could mark a significant consolidation in Japan’s onshore wind sector.
