The state-owned clean energy developer, China Green Development Group, through its Inner Mongolia branch, has commissioned a 200 MW/800 MWh semi-solid-state battery energy storage system (BESS) in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia.
The facility is now China’s largest grid-side, independent new-type energy storage station deploying semi-solid-state lithium iron phosphate battery technology, and represents the nation’s first major commercial application of semi-solid-state ESS, doubling the scale of China’s previous largest project (100 MW/200 MWh). The milestone marks the transition of China’s semi-solid-state storage technology from pilot demonstrations to full-scale commercial deployment. The project, located in the low-carbon Wuhai high-tech industrial development zone, comprises 160 ESS battery cabins, and 40 integrated converter and step-up cabins across an area of roughly 100 mu. It is designed to provide peak-shaving and frequency-regulation services with a rated output of 200 MW and an energy capacity of 800 MWh, delivering approximately 189 GWh of clean electricity annually to the regional grid.
