The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has notified the CERC (Terms and Conditions of Tariff) (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2026.
The amendment brings integrated energy storage systems (IESS) under the tariff framework and recognises their deployment alongside generating stations or transmission assets for storing and dispatching electricity. It also provides that such systems may help defer or avoid the requirement for additional transmission infrastructure. Further, lithium ion battery-based systems have been explicitly included under IESS with a useful life of 15 years. The regulations also introduce a supplementary tariff mechanism for integrated storage systems. Generating companies and transmission licensees are required to file tariff petitions within 90 days from the date of commercial operation.
