Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has received a letter of intent (LoI) to establish an inter-state transmission system namely, “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Phase-IV (Part-5: 6 GW) (Barmer Complex) Barmer-II: 6 GW (Solar) (LCC Configuration)” on a build, own, operate and transfer basis. POWERGRID emerged as the successful bidder under the tariff based competitive bidding (TBCB) route by quoting annual transmission charges of Rs 32,443.3 million.
The project involves setting up 6,000 MW, ±800 kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) terminals at Barmer-II in Rajasthan and South Kalamb in Maharashtra. It also includes augmentation of the South Kalamb substation. Further, the project involves the construction of an approximately 1,000 km ±800 kV HVDC bipole line between Barmer-II and South Kalamb. The line will traverse Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. In addition, 400 kV transmission lines and associated bays will be constructed in Rajasthan. Two synchronous condenser units and associated bays will also be installed at Barmer-II.
