MNRE releases report assessing over 102 GWp floating solar potential

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released the report on floating solar photovoltaic (PV) potential assessment of India. The report estimates the country’s floating solar PV potential at over 102 GWp, taking the total assessed solar potential to 3,445 GWp. The ministry is also working on a dedicated scheme to promote floating solar deployment.

The assessment has been carried out by the National Institute of Solar Energy and adopts a data-driven methodology incorporating key hydrological and topographical parameters to evaluate the floating solar potential of water bodies across states. As per the report, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha and Telangana are the states with the highest waterbody potential for the development of floating solar projects.
